William, affectionately known as Billy was my grandad and died on 17th July 2002. He left behind his wife of 19 years, his 4 step children and lots of grandchildren. My grandad died after being admitted to hospital with pnuemonia. My fondest memories of him was when he used to play card games with us when we were small. He would always send us away with a 50 pence piece after smiling, winking and saying "Dont tell your dad". We spent one summer walking along the beach in Frinton, eating Nectarines with him telling me about how things were when he was younger. He would sit with my mum, having his daily brandy and a chat.
My funniest memory was hearing about how he once got extremely drunk and fell down a ditch.
My grandad was not related to me by blood but that is a minor detail. My grandad was a true scottish gent. He looked after my scraped knees, told my stories and loved me no matter what. Even after all these years, i think of him and miss him very much.
My nephew was born one year later, one day after my grandad had died and has William as his middle name. I wish he could have met him.

Hi Grandad

Just checking to day I miss my true Scottish gent and the nectarines we used to share :-) I look at people who still have their granddads with envy because I no longer have mine.what I do have though is wonderful memories which no one can take from me.

You've always had a special place,
deep within my heart.
Forever there it will remain,
whether we're near or far apart.

You've always been a favourite,
to everyone you know.
You've always made me happy,
when I was feeling low.

The kind advice you gave to me,
will never be replaced.
Nothing else can ever compare,
when I see a smile upon your face.

I want you to know I love you,
and you mean the world to me.
You're the star I'll always wish upon,
the light I'll always see.

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be,
So he put his arms around you and whispered "Come to me",
With tearful eyes I watched you and saw you pass away,
Although I loved you dearly, I could not make you stay,
A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest,
God broke my heart to prove to me he only takes the best.

My Grandad

You meant so much to all of us
You were special and that's no lie
You brightened up the darkest day
And the cloudiest sky

Your smile alone warmed hearts
Your laugh was like music to hear
I would give absolutely anything
To have you well and standing near

Not a second passes
When you're not on our minds
Your love we will never forget
The hurt will ease in time

Many tears I have seen and cried
They have all poured out like rain
I know that you are happy now
And no longer in any pain.
